Surgical Services at Ayers Animal Hospital

At Ayers Animal Hospital, we offer a wide range of surgical services, from routine procedures like dog and cat spaying and neutering to more advanced surgeries, including ACL repair, patella luxation, soft tissue surgery, exploratory surgery, and emergency procedures. With our highly experienced surgeons and state-of-the-art technology, we ensure your pet receives top-quality surgical care. We adhere to the stringent AAHA (American Animal Health Association) guidelines for pre-examination, bloodwork, anesthesia, surgery, and pain management to prioritize your pet’s health.

Spaying and neutering are among the most common surgeries we perform. These procedures not only help control the overpopulation of pets but also significantly contribute to your pet’s health and longevity. Spaying prevents uterine and breast cancer in female pets, while neutering reduces the risk of prostate and testicular cancer in males. Neutering cats also helps reduce spraying and fighting. Many health issues are prevented by spaying and neutering your pet, and most pets can go home the same evening after a morning surgery.

Anesthesia

We understand that some pet owners are concerned about anesthesia. Rest assured, we use the safest anesthesia methods available. Performing surgery on younger, healthier pets is much safer than waiting until they are older and potentially suffering from complications like uterine infections or prostate issues, which increase the risks and costs associated with surgery.

Individualized Care

Before any surgery, our veterinarians conduct a thorough physical exam, provide you with a detailed quote for the procedure, and give instructions on pre- and post-operative care. We advise withholding food for at least 12 hours before surgery to avoid anesthesia complications, though water is allowed. We highly recommend diagnostic blood work before surgery to rule out any underlying health issues.

Emergencies

In case of emergency surgery, our in-house lab, x-ray, and ultrasound capabilities allow for rapid diagnostics. Our doctors are highly skilled in handling complex emergency surgeries, ensuring your pet receives the best possible care in critical situations.
