Protection You Can Trust

As a pet owner, one of the best ways to ensure the good health of your beloved friends is by vaccinating them against common and highly contagious diseases. At Ayers Animal Hospital, we offer a wide range of pet vaccinations in Huntington, WV. For dogs, this includes vaccines for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Bordetella (kennel cough), and Rabies. For cats, essential vaccines cover Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Chlamydia, Panleukopenia, Feline Leukemia, Feline AIDS (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), and Rabies.

When Should I Start Vaccinating My Pet?

Newborn animals receive initial immunization protection from their mother’s milk. Once they are weaned, they lose that protection and become vulnerable to various illnesses. That’s where we come in, starting them on a vaccination schedule every 3 weeks until they are approximately 16-18 weeks old. The reason for the boosters is to help build up and mature their immune system. After completing the initial series, we recommend annual vaccinations.

Are Vaccines Safe?

Some pet owners may worry about the safety of vaccines and potential side effects. While there is a small risk of an allergic reaction, it is minimal, and if it occurs, we can customize the vaccine schedule to ensure adequate immunity. Pets are at a greater risk without vaccines, which can also lead to higher financial costs for treatment. Even indoor-only pets must be vaccinated, especially for rabies, to ensure your safety and comply with the law. Rabies is a fatal disease, and if a pet contracts it, they must be euthanized, and any humans exposed must undergo a painful and extensive series of Rabies shots. Routine vaccines are essential for your pet to live a long, happy life.
